Thomas 'Buddy' Höfs

Education and Career

Thomas Höfs took his first music lesson  at the age of 11 years at the Music school Lübeck with B. Zien (Staatsoper Hamburg) and H. Haedler (NDR-Sinfonieorchester).

He played at the National Youth Orchestra in Germany, the European Youth Orchestra and was a seccessful participant at the "Jugend musiziert" competition.

He studied percussion at the University of Music Freiburg (Germany) with Prof. B. Wulff where he graduated with distinction.

Since 1993 he is principal percussionist at the National Opera Stuttgart. Furthermore he is a frequent visiting musician in all big symphonic orchestras in Germany.

His broad interesst for all the different facets of percussion lead him to cooperations with Instrumentmakers like THEIN who support him to realize his inspirations into new developments.

The following new developments where realized by Thomas "Buddy" Höfs:

  • „Buddy" & Thein: Triangels + Tambourines
  • „Roberto Spizzichino“: Cymbals
  • Adrian Kirchler: AK-Concert snare drums

Since 2009 "Buddy" is teacher for orchestra percussion at the University of Music Karlsruhe.
