At the age of 21, Italian trombonist Peter Steiner was appointed Principal Trombone of the Colorado Symphony (USA) for the 2014-2015 season. On the international stage, he is a finalist for the 2015 Slider Asia Tenor Trombone Competition (Hong Kong) and participant at the ARD Solo Competition (Munich). In 2014, he was a Finalist in three competitions held by the International Trombone Association, including the Lewis van Haney-Tenor Trombone Orchestral Excerpt Competition, the Frank Smith-Tenor Trombone Competition and the Robert Marsteller-Tenor Trombone Competition.
In addition to the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, Peter Steiner performed as guest Principal Trombone of the Seattle Symphony Orchestra. In 2014, he was Assistant Principal for Joseph Alessi at a benefit concert with musicians from the New York Philharmonic, The Philadelphia Orchestra and Metropolitan Opera Orchestra at Carnegie Hall. Upcoming engagements include performances with the Vienna Philharmonic.
A strong advocate for chamber music playing, Peter has appeared as a guest artist with the European Brass Ensemble. In 2012, he toured Japan with the Gomalan Brass Quintet. Steiner can be heard on the 2012 "Inspiration" recording as a soloist with the local wind band of Bolzano (Italy) in Bert Appermont´s "Colors".
In collaboration with Joseph Alessi, Peter Steiner soloed with Symphonic Winds (Italy). He was also a featured soloist with the Austrian Youth Brass Band at the European Brass Band Championship 2010 in Linz (Austria). Other solo performances have taken him to the North American, European, and Asian continents.
Peter Steiner began his studies at the Music Conservatory in his hometown of Bolzano, Italy before continuing his study at The Mozarteum of Salzburg (Austria). He is currently a student at The Juilliard School in New York City. His major teachers and influences include Joseph Alessi, Warren Deck, Dany Bonvin, and Lito Fontana.
