Raphael Campos da Paixão was born in São Paulo, SP, on December 7th 1984. As a kid, his family moved to Mairiporã (a smaller city approx. 25 miles from São Paulo), where he had his first contact with music in the school fanfare. In 1999 Raphael started his trombone studies with Carlos Freitas.
After that, he studied at the best music schools in Brazil and Europe, such as: Fundação das Artes de São Caetano do Sul (SP - Brazil) with Professor Valdir Ferreira, Faculdade Santa Marcelina (SP - Brazil) with Professor Darcio Gianelli, and at the Music Academy of the Symphonic Orchestra of São Paulo with the professors Darcio Gianelli, Wagner Polistchuk, and Darrin Milling. In Europe, Raphael studied at CODARTS in Rotterdam (Netherlands) with Jorgen van Rijen, Pierre Volders, Remko de Jager, and Ben van Dijk.
Raphael was the winner of the Young Soloists Competition of the Municipal Band of Ribeirão Pires (2003). In 2005 he win the second place of the Brass Competition of the Universidade Livre de Música (SP) and the third place of the National Competition Isolisti. In 2008 he was semifinalist at the TV show Prelúdio for the television channel TV Cultura.
He participated on important national and international festivals, such as the International Festival of Campos do Jordão (São Paulo) in 2007 and 2009, Femusc –Santa Catarina Music Festival in 2009, the Music Workshop in Curitiba - Paraná in 2004, 2008 and 2010, and the Slide Factory 2011 – The International Trombone Festival in the Netherlands.
He performed as a teacher and soloist on following events: the International Trombonist Festival of the ABT (Brazilian Trombonists Association) in 2012, the 1st and 2nd International Festival of the Projeto Bone Brazil, with Ben van Dijk in 2013 and Zachary Bond in 2015.
Raphael also performed as invited musician with many orchestras and musical ensembles in Brazil and in Europe, such as the Continuo Orkest of Rotterdam (Netherlands), Dulce Memoire Chamber Choir of Overveen (Netherlands), the Philharmonic Orchestra of Ribeirão Preto (Brazil), the Symphonic Orchestra of the University of São Paulo (Brazil), the Philharmonic Orchestra of São Caetano do Sul (Brazil), the Municipal Symphonic Orchestra of Santos (Brazil), the Academic Orchestra of São Paulo (Brazil), the Symphonic Orchestra of the Municipal Theatre in Rio de Janeiro and the Symphonic Orchestra of the State São Paulo (Brazil).
Nowadays Raphael plays solo trombone at the Brazilian Symphonic Orchestra, as well as solo trombone at the Symphonic Orchestra of the Municipal Theater in São Paulo. He also participates on chamber music projects, teaches and offers master classes throughout Brazil.
